​​Tomas Spicer was born in 1988 London, where he lives and works. He is currently pursuing a MFA at Goldsmiths, UOL (2022-2025). Between 2014 and 2018 he was the co-director and organiser of LEM, an independent exhibition space in London, dedicated to visual arts. Spicer has lived and worked in Kerala, India (2018). He has a BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins, UAL (2010-2014). The artist has integrated his studio and teaching practice. After completing a PGCE at the IOE (2020), the artist worked as an Art, Design lecturer and course leader for the UAL foundation program at Barnet and Southgate College until 2023.
Spicer is led by intuition, visual imagination and emotion, alongside a profound interest in contemporary consciousness, the human condition and notions of time. He is best known for his use of color and touch to explore what he feels to be the endless possibilities of painting. Working with washes of thinned down oil paint, staining, mark making and processes of removal, Spicer explores abstract pictorial space, covering and revealing the many movements and moments contained in his works.
