I am a London-based artist working across painting and drawing. My practice centres on abstract works on paper and canvas that explore language, literacy and the ways meaning can be formed through visual experience. I am interested in drawing and painting as forms of thinking and communication that do not depend on words.

Having left school unable to read and write, drawing, painting and making became primary ways for me to understand and engage with the world. This experience continues to inform my practice and my interest in how knowledge is formed, communicated and understood. Rather than illustrating particular ideas, I use abstraction to explore forms of understanding that can be felt, encountered and remain open to interpretation.

I work intuitively with oil paint, pencil, crayon and spray paint, using processes of layering, repetition, erasure and revision. Often monochromatic and presented as diptychs, the works retain visible traces of their making and allow unexpected forms and relationships to emerge. Through mark, surface and repetition, I explore the space between intention and uncertainty, and between making, seeing and understanding.
