Tomas Spicer
Born in 1988, London, UK
Lives and works in London, UK

Tomas Spicer is a contemporary artist working across painting, drawing and installation. He produces oil paintings on canvas, multimedia drawings on paper and wooden structures to display his works.

Spicer makes paintings in an attempt to interpret his everyday life, depicting scenes glimpsed from the spaces and places that surround him, paying special attention to his environment’s social and material frameworks. Investigating the slippage between realism and abstraction, autobiography and fiction, and the everyday and the extraordinary, Spicer employs a painting practice that confronts and manipulates tradition.

Recent projects interrogate the everyday by examining issues around time, voyeurism, place, energy, and signals, within the conceptual and material landscape of the city. These works are nuanced, complex and poetic, they do not seek to solve life's uncertainties; instead, they draw them out along with their resulting anxieties, exploring them as a visual medium, giving them form and presence.

Tomas Spicer is a current student at Goldsmiths University of London studying in the Masters of Fine Art program. Recent projects include Hunch, Changing Rooms, Goldsmiths MFA, London, (UK). Spicers work features in various national and international private collections.
